Opened in 1988 by legendary R&B artist Boz Scaggs, Slim’s is a live music nightclub dedicated to providing the public with excellent service, a friendly atmosphere, good food & drinks, and the finest of American Roots Music, Blues, R&B, Cajun/Zydeco, Jazz, Alternative, Metal, Hip-Hop, Pop and more.

Slim’s has been voted Best Bar & Club, Best Sound and Best Music Venue many times throughout the years by publications like Pollstar Magazine and the San Francisco Chronicle and has played host to artists such as Radiohead, Kings of Leon, X and Prince. The club is located in the South of Market district of San Francisco, a hub of nightlife in the city, within easy access or parking and public transportation.

The premises consist of an open floor on our main level. At one end of the floor is our performance stage. At the other end we have a small balcony with table seating for 30 where guests may sit and relax by ordering one of our Dinner & Admission tickets, which comes with a 3-course prix fixe dinner. Our bar runs the length of the floor in an “L” shape. The decor is simple and tasteful, with chandeliers, brick walls, and a bar inspired by the facades of several New Orleans manors.

Slim’s offers a full bar and kitchen with bar menu and table service (limited availability). A coat check and additional restrooms are located in our downstairs level.

General Info:

The Slim's Box Office is located near the entrance to the club on 11th Street. There is a $1.00 service fee for advance tickets.
Tickets can also be purchased online via our website or InTicketing for an additional service charge.
Fax orders can be processed Mon-Fri until 5pm by filling out this downloadable form and sending it to 415-252-9564
Slim's tickets may also be purchased at the Great American Music Hall Box Office.

Alternate Will Call Pick-up:

If you have tickets at will call, but need someone else to pick them up there is no need to call or contact us. Simply make a photocopy of your ID and write a note on it releasing your tickets into someone else's name. Include your full name and their full name. If your guest brings that with them, along with their own photo ID, they will be able to pick up your tickets.

Public Transportation

The closest BART station to Slim's is the Civic Center stop. It is approximately a 15 minute walk or you can take the MUNI #9 bus which runs down Market St. and stops at the corner of Folsom & 11th (Slim's is half-way down the block on the left hand side.)

The last BART trains to the East Bay typically depart around 12:20am and the final Southbound trains around 1:00am.

There are also All Nighter bus routes available throughout the city and surrounding counties.


There is street parking (metered until 6pm) on many of the blocks surrounding the club, however after 8:30pm, Slim's guests may also use the Costco parking lot located on 11th St. between Bryant St. and Harrison St. The fee is a $10.00 flat rate and is open until 2:30am.

Meet the Chef

Chef Jose Yanez has cooking in his blood. Born into a family of restaurateurs in Guadalajara, Mexico, Jose spent most of his childhood in the kitchen watching his family craft traditional Mexican dishes nightly to a packed room at their cenaduria, La Fe in the town of Cuquio.

It was no surprise when Jose left seminary school - where he was studying to become a Catholic priest - to follow in his family's footsteps. In 1976 he relocated to the Bay Area and began his own culinary journey. Completely self-taught in the kitchen and armed with very little English, he started as a dish washer and quickly elevated himself to the position of Line Cook within 3 months.

Jose spent his formative years learning the ropes in various Italian kitchens across the peninsula and later expanded his repertoire into traditional French and California cuisine, doing catering for Perry’s Catering, Pac-Bell Park, Candlestick Park and Bon Appetit. In 1996 he joined Slim’s as Executive Chef, where he’s been happily serving customers ever since, developing an almost cult following amongst bands and guests alike. So if you ever find yourself reading the liner notes to your favorite band’s latest album and it mentions Chef you know who they’re talking about!

Jose’s cooking style blends his tapatío roots with Italian and American cooking and his menu is packed with tasty treats that cover everything from fries, burgers and sandwiches to tacos, sopes and chicken mole. He makes all his sauces and salsas from scratch based on family recipes and his own personal creations using only the freshest ingredients, so you aren’t likely to find them duplicated anywhere else in the city (or even the state).

Dinner seating is reserved for the first 1 1/2 hours after doors for patrons with Dinner & Admission tickets, however, seating is still on a first come, first served basis, so you should plan to arrive early to pick the seat you want.
